The student adviser to the U46 school board is hoping to organize a summit of students from around the district to share ideas and boost civic engagement.
"I want students from every high school to have a chance to collaborate on topics in their schools, their cultures, their traditions and, ultimately, a chance to discuss any topics of need in the district," said Eric Loera, who is serving as an adviser this year.
The first student advisory council meeting is this week, he said, and he wants to get the ball rolling on the summit. He envisions it being student-led.
Loera said he'd like to get the summit organized in the near future.
"It's something I've wanted to do (since) I took this position," he said.
